SANTA HELPS QUADRANT WIN TOP AWARD

Jim Gibbons, senior producer at Cardiff-based media and communications company Quadrant, has scooped a major award at the 2006 CNN World Report Awards for his reporting from the European Parliament.
Jim, who is bureau chief at the company's Brussels and Strasbourg offices, won the 'Best Business Report' - for his contribution to CNN's World Report, which is watched by more than 500 million viewers worldwide.
His 2 minute report on the European Unions' directive on Cross-border Services was illustrated by a large group of Danish Santas who complained that they were not being allowed to take their reindeers to deliver Christmas toys in neighbouring countries because the regulations would not allow them to cross international borders.
'Best Business Report' was one of four prize categories for contributions to the World Reports programme during 2005 and Quadrant came joint first with a Swiss TV station.
Jim said: "The competition was very tough this year with over 60 nominations for four award categories so it is fantastic to win at doing something that I thoroughly enjoy. Even after all the years I've been doing it, it is still really exciting to receive an award and I'm delighted and eternally surprised that my work is being watched by millions of people."
This is actually the fifth CNN World Report award Jim has won for contributions to the programme on behalf of EUTV since he started producing them in 1991.
Colin Stevens, managing director of Quadrant's European operations, said: "Jim has more than 30 years' broadcasting experience and is undoubtedly one of the world's best political journalists and is recognised as such worldwide. He thoroughly deserves this award."
Jim is responsible for providing Quadrant's reports on all aspects of the European Union to a variety of broadcasters, including CNN, the ITV regional stations and as a presenter on Deutsche Welle, German World Service TV.
