VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE PICNIC SPOT IN WALES

People across Wales are being asked to vote for their favourite picnic spot.

Family baker Warburtons is hosting the fourth annual Picnic Awards in the build up to National Bread Week, which runs from 3 to 9 May to celebrate the love of bread and the great British outdoors.

This year, Warburtons has teamed up with Visit Wales and the four regional tourism partnerships to select Wales’ top 10 picnic spots.

The 10 Welsh finalists are:

  • Garn Lakes, Blaenavon
  • Rhossili Bay and Worm’s Head, Gower
  • Penallt, Wye Valley
  • Plas Newydd, Llangollen
  • Gnoll Country Park, Neath
  • Llyn Brenig, Denbighshire
  • Barafundle, Pembrokeshire
  • Ogmore Castle and stepping stones, Ogmore
  • Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forestry Centre, near Aberystwyth
  • Bute Park, Cardiff
During the final heat, the Welsh winner will go on to battle it out against the other regional winners from across the UK for the coveted title of ‘Warburtons Best Picnic Spot 2010’. The overall winner will receive a £1,000 cash bursary for the site and a plaque to ensure all visitors know it’s the UK’s top place to picnic. Each regional winner will also be presented with a £500 bursary towards the maintenance of the site, ensuring visitors can continue to enjoy picnics there in future years.

David Williams, manager of Warburtons bakery in Wales, said: “The Warburtons Picnic Awards 2010 are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate one of our great British traditions. We’re a nation of bread lovers and what better way to enjoy it than whilst exploring the great outdoors. The UK is bursting with beautiful locations and sensational scenery to enjoy so why not treat the family to a day out to one of our picnic hot spots!”
