WELSH STAR TRIO TO HOST LAUNCH EVENTS

Three of Wales’ most recognisable stars will host events across Wales to celebrate the launch of the Wales Coast Path on May 5th.

Weather presenter, Derek Brockway and TV presenters Frances Donovan and Sian Lloyd, will help celebrate the opening of this landmark project by hosting public events in Aberystwyth, Cardiff and Flint respectively. Environment Minister, John Griffiths will officially open the Wales Coast Path at the Cardiff Bay event.

Developed as a key initiative by the Welsh Government, the Wales Coast Path will run for 870 miles (1400km) from the Welsh border in the North, to Chepstow, in the South. It will be a world first in providing a continuous public path around a country’s coastline.

The opening festivities are the culmination of five years work and are a chance for everyone to help celebrate this momentous occasion. Derek, Frances and Sian will lead the festivities which will see local business, food and drink producers, community groups and entertainers come together to celebrate and share the best of the Welsh coastline.

These family and community oriented events will see on-stage entertainment, a ‘Coast Showcase’ of exhibitors, children’s entertainers and a ‘Taste of the Coast’ with local food and drink producers sampling their goods.

The events start at approximately 11.00am at Aberystwyth Promenade, Roald Dahl Plass in Cardiff Bay and Flint Castle. Entertainment will include local bands, dance groups, stilt walkers and choirs, while there is story telling and magicians especially for the children.

The Wales Coast Path has been developed by the Welsh Government in partnership with the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), sixteen local authorities and two National Parks.

In addition to funding from the Welsh Government and the coastal local authorities of approximately £2 million per year, the European Regional Development Fund has allocated nearly £4 million over four years to support the project.
