MOTORISTS ASKED TO SLOW DOWN IN IKEA ROADWORKS

Safety Camera Partnership is asking all motorists to observe the restricted 50mph speed limit on the A4232 (Cardiff Bay/M4 link road) while essential road works take place for the new IKEA development.

The 50mph limit, which is in place between the Leckwith junction and the Butetown Tunnel, is being enforced from Monday and will probably remain for the rest of the year. A static camera will enforce the northbound stretch of road while mobile camera enforcement will take place southbound.

John Rowling, project manager for Safety Camera Partnership, which is responsible for static and mobile speed camera enforcement in the Dyfed Powys, South Wales and Gwent police force areas, said: “The restricted speed limit is necessary to allow the roadworks to be undertaken and protect the construction workers.

“Cameras will enforce the speed limit in both directions. We are asking all motorists to be patient and reduce their speeds when driving through the restricted area. This limit is in place for your safety – not to catch you out. Consideration for other motorists and the construction workers is paramount during this time.”

Any motorists recorded exceeding the 50mph speed limit will be prosecuted.
