PORT SERVICES COMPANIES CONSIDER NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Two port services companies in West Wales and Southampton are actively considering the formation of a new joint company to develop business opportunities in the sector.

Marine and Port Services, a division of Milford Docks Company - part of the Milford Haven Port Authority Group – and Southampton-based Williams Shipping have begun discussions to explore the merits of a new company.

If it goes ahead, the new company would present considerable opportunities to develop new business within the marine and port services sector.

The proposal, which would not result in any redundancies, is being considered by the Boards of Milford Haven Port Authority and the two companies concerned.

The Milford Docks Company provides port and harbour services for Milford Haven Port Authority including wharfage, stevedoring, support to the fishing industry, ship repair, waterside services and marine and leisure facilities. It also operates the Pembroke Dock Ferry Terminal used by Irish Ferries.

Williams Shipping was established in 1894 and provides marine services to the port of Southampton. It services include bunkering, hire and charter of tugs and launches, and it operates one of the country’s largest fleets of flat top barges and pontoons.
