ROLE OF MISSION TO SEAFARERS PRAISED
The valuable role of the Mission to Seafarers in caring for ships’ crews who come ashore – some of them after many weeks at sea - has been highlighted in a presentation to Milford Haven Port Authority.
Chris Barnes, Milford Haven Port Chaplain, met with the Board and senior managers of the Port Authority to bring them up to date with the modern role of the Mission to Seafarers, and specifically on its work within the Haven. He was joined at the discussion by John Hance, Deputy Secretary General of The Mission.
Port Authority chief executive Ted Sangster welcomed the meeting, and paid tribute to the valuable role played by the Mission.
“We are pleased to support the work of the Mission to Seafarers in Milford Haven,” he said. “We regard their presence as an important part of the support network offered to seafarers who come to the Haven.
“It is not just their pastoral role which can help, but the fact that they are here in the port as a support organisation, independent of ships, for men and women who may not have been ashore for many months, and simply need someone to talk to and confide in.”
