SPEEDS HIT 64MPH THROUGH WICK
Motorists are using the main road in Wick as a race track and putting lives at risk, Mid and South Wales Safety Camera Partnership warned today.
Residents in the village have voiced concerns about the speeds driven along St Brides Road (B4265), saying that it is an accident waiting to happen.
During a three-hour period of enforcement last week, 56 motorists were recorded driving above the 30mph speed limit, with a top speed of 64mph. This driver now faces a court appearance.
John Rowling, manager of the Safety Camera Partnership, which is responsible for static and mobile speed camera enforcement in the Dyfed Powys, South Wales and Gwent police force areas, said that travelling at these speeds not only results in a fine and points on the licence but, more importantly, endangers the innocent lives of other people.
“We have received numerous complaints from the residents of Wick and, despite continuous, high visibility enforcement, motorists are still ignoring the speed limit and driving at unacceptable speeds. Our enforcement officer has even likened the road to a race track because of the speeds being driven,” he said. “We want motorists to think about the consequences of their actions. At these speeds, it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs.
“We don’t want motorists’ money and we don’t want them to lose their licences. All we want is for them to slow down.”
