SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS NUDGES £10K
Donations to local community groups by Milford Haven Port Authority have almost topped the £10,000 mark.
Almost 70 organisations ranging from sea cadets to operatic societies, and including individuals seeking support for charity fun runs, have received backing from the Port Authority’s fund since April.
The requests for support from groups operating in the community are considered on their merit by a unique committee of staff members from all departments throughout the Port Authority Group.
Recent donations have been made to the Children’s Toy Run 2004, Haverfordwest Town Museum and the Brunel Explorer Scout Unit.
The Committee’s chairman, Deputy Harbourmaster Bill Hirst, said that, as a Trust Port, the Port Authority had always been keen to support the community in which it operated.
“There are a significant number of people and organisations doing valuable work locally, and we try to support as many as we can,” he said.
“By setting up a panel of staff who live locally to go through the applications, we hope that we are able to get a good balance of support for worthy projects and endeavours within the community.”
