RALLY GOERS ASKED TO WATCH THEIR SPEED
Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership is urging rally goers to stick to speed limits during this year’s Wales Rally GB to help make sure they enjoy the event safely and avoid going home with an unwanted souvenir.
The Partnership is hoping this year’s event, which takes place between 15 and 18 September across Mid and South Wales, will be as safe and successful as 2004 when there was a 28 per cent drop in the number of offences compared to 2003.
The Partnership has been working closely with South Wales Police, Dyfed Powys Police and rally organisers to encourage competitors and fans to stick to speed limits. There will be plenty of time to travel between rally stages without the need to speed and traffic police as well as speed and traffic light cameras will operate on routes between the stages. Speed display signs will also be used, which advise motorists of their speed but do not result in prosecution.
Partnership manager, Phil Davies, said: “We’re delighted that the number of motorists caught speeding during Wales Rally GB has been falling steadily since 2002 and we hope that we’ll record even fewer offences this year. We’re urging everyone to stick to speed limits to help make sure they enjoy the 2005 event safely and avoid picking up an unwanted souvenir.”
