Headmaster Appointed As Chairman of the Welsh Independent School Council
Phillip Jones, Headmaster, Christ College, Brecon, has been appointed as chair of the Welsh Independent School Council (WISC), the umbrella organisation which seeks to support and speak for accredited Independent schools in Wales.
While there are some 70 independent schools in Wales, the 18 members of WISC represent 92% of Welsh independent school pupils.
Phillip Jones said: “WISC is a relatively young organisation having taken over from the previous Wales ICSis organisation. The regional director of WISC, Ian Brown, and the outgoing chairman, Jane Fitz, have both worked extremely hard to put the organisation on a sound footing and develop very close links with the Estyn Inspectorate, the Secondary Heads Association and the Welsh Assembly Government. In that sense the hard work within the organisation has been done and their efforts will make my job considerably easier.”
Phillip Jones aims to encourage more independent schools meeting high standards in Wales to join the organisation.
