MOTORISTS ASKED TO OBSERVE NEW A4055 SPEED LIMITS

Motorists are being asked to stick to new speed limits on the A4055 while essential roadworks take place for the new International Sports Village development in Cardiff Bay.

Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership will start motorcycle camera enforcement in both directions to slow motorists down through the roadworks on the Cogan Spur road, which has a temporary speed limit of 30mph.

A permanent 40mph speed limit has also been introduced further along on the Barry Road section of the A4055 and will be enforced for the duration of the roadworks.

Phil Davies, manager of Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership, said that the enforcement was necessary to protect roadworkers while they carry out the development. “We’re asking all motorists to be patient while the work is carried out. It’s not just about the person behind the wheel but innocent roadworkers put themselves at risk everyday while they go about their work. A number of roadworkers are killed or seriously injured each year – all these deaths and injuries are avoidable,” he said.

Motorists are also reminded that a static speed camera is in place on the northbound stretch of the A4232 (Cardiff Bay/M4 link road) to enforce the temporary 50mph speed limit during the roadworks.

Fixed and mobile safety cameras can only be used where people have been killed or injured, at sites of community concern or at roadworks. For further information on Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership, please visit www.checkyourspeed.org.uk
