MOTORISTS ASKED TO OBSERVE A465 SPEED LIMITS
Motorists are being asked to stick to a reduced speed limit on the A465 Heads of the Valley road while essential roadworks take place.
Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership is enforcing the 30mph limit in both directions to slow motorists down through the roadworks between Abergavenny and Llanfoist. Speeds of up to 60mph have already been recorded by mobile cameras at the roadworks, which will be in place until the summer while the road is increased from three to four lanes.
Phil Davies, manager of Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership, said that the enforcement was necessary to protect roadworkers and motorists during the work. “We’re asking all motorists to be patient while the work is carried out. It’s not just about the person behind the wheel but innocent roadworkers put themselves at risk everyday while they go about their work. A number of roadworkers are killed or seriously injured each year – all these deaths and injuries are avoidable,” he said.
Fixed and mobile safety cameras can only be used where people have been killed or injured, at sites of community concern or at roadworks. For further information on Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership, please visit www.checkyourspeed.org.uk
