FUNDING FROM WELSH ASSEMBLY GOVERNMENT HELPS TO SECURE NEW JOBS AT ALROD
Independent chartered accountancy firm Broomfield & Alexander today announced it has been successful in helping its client, Alrod Limited to secure a Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) grant of £200,000 from the Welsh Assembly Government.
The Merthyr Tydfil-based company, which specialises in manufacturing aluminium components, has also recently won three new contracts totalling over £¾ million. The contracts are for an aluminium exercise bench for use in Pilates, the exercise regime that has taken the United States by storm and is favoured by many celebrities; an aluminium folding chair and aluminium framed folding table, which compete favourably on price with the competition and are more modern in appearance; and shower cubicles and shower screens for a healthcare company.
Alrod currently has 43 full-time employees and eight part-time employees based at the company’s premises in Merthyr Tydfil Business Park. It is anticipated that 30 new jobs will be created within three years.
Rod Buskell, managing director of Alrod said: “Since Alrod started 16 years ago, it has been our intention to diversify into as wide a range of industries as possible, so that the peaks and troughs of individual industries would have less of an impact on the company’s growth and profitability. The future is looking very positive for the company and I am delighted that we have been able to secure funding from the Welsh Assembly Government. Broomfield & Alexander worked very closely with us to put the bid application together and their expertise has proved invaluable. Because they have been through this process with clients before, we were able to draw on this knowledge and I have no doubt that things would not have run so smoothly if it wasn’t for them.”
Seamus Gates, partner at Broomfield & Alexander was responsible for overseeing the whole application. He said: “When faced with major new contract wins, many companies will need to look for funding in order to expand. The RSA grant is the ideal mechanism for this and it is good to see the Welsh Assembly Government supporting and investing in home-grown businesses. Alrod has grown significantly since it started in 1986 and I’m sure that its policy of diversifying will enable it to continue to do so and contribute even further to the local economy.”
