SCHOOL’S FIRST FEMALE HEAD

Christ College Brecon has appointed a new head teacher who will take over in September 2007 and for the first time in the school’s 465 year history there is going to be a woman in charge.

Emma Taylor, 40, currently the senior mistress and admissions tutor at Dean Close School in Cheltenham, was one of over 50 applicants for the hotly contested post.

Said Headmaster, Phillip Jones “The School governors were delighted with the outstanding quality of applications. It made their job extremely difficult, and we are thrilled that Mrs Taylor has accepted the position and will take up her new post next year”

Emma Taylor, an Oxford graduate, will move to Brecon with her husband, Simon, a modern languages teacher and her two children, Holly and Daisy.

Explaining how she viewed the change and why the school so appealed to her, Emma Taylor said: “I am not surprised that so many people wanted to apply for the post. I wanted to work in a school where I actually got to know everyone and was part of the community and so the size of the school, with just over 300 pupils, is ideal. I came into teaching to teach and to have contact with pupils, and Christ College appeals to me greatly from this point of view.

The pupils were what impressed me most when I visited Christ College, because of their confidence as young adults and their love for the school. The school itself has an outstanding reputation and I’m looking forward to the challenges and joys of leading such a special community”.
