BRECON GIRL SCALES NEW HEIGHTS
A young climber from Brecon has reached the peak, winning first place at the inaugural Welsh Youth International Climbing Championships in Trelewis
Holly Rees, a pupil at Christ College Brecon, who has been a keen climber since she was six years old, won the Senior Girls category (16-17 year olds) at the competition staged at the Welsh International Climbing Centre and is now waiting to hear if she has been selected for the International climbing team.
Headmaster of Christ College, Phillip Jones, said: “Holly has been climbing at Llangors Rope Centre since she was six and has been competing since she was 12 years old, so it came as no surprise therefore that she won her competition.
“With more than 70 young people taking part in the championships, we are thrilled with Holly’s achievement. This has come as a result of her total commitment, physical effort, humour and no short measure of ability. We, at Christ College, are all very proud of her”
The Headmaster also praised the organisers of the Championships. “Like all such events, they couldn't happen without the support of all those who selflessly volunteer their time, skills and effort,” he said.
