PEOPLE IN CAERPHILLY ENCOURAGED TO KEEP WELL THIS WINTER

People over the age of 60 in Caerphilly are being encouraged to keep well this Winter with a series of roadshows arranged by the Local Health Board’s Public Health Team.

Organised under the Keep Well This Winter: Keep Warm, Keep Well, Keep Safe banner, the roadshows will be held on Thursday 11 October at Blackwood Miners Institute and Friday 12 October at Caerphilly RFC between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

The free roadshows aim to give information and advice from a number of different agencies to people aged 60 or over within the borough, including:

  • blood pressure checks, medicine management and the flu vaccine
  • eye tests, foot care, Out of Hours service and exercise tasters
  • energy efficiency and low energy light bulbs
  • home fire safety checks and home security
  • pension and council tax credit advice
People are also encouraged to take along their electric blankets for free safety checks by the Trading Standards section of Caerphilly County Borough Council. Any blankets belonging to the over 60s found to be unsafe will be replaced for free. During last year’s event, half of all those blankets tested proved to be unsafe. For those that are unable to attend the events, blankets can be dropped off at the council’s cash offices this week.

All those attending will receive a Keep Well This Winter pack and be entered into a free prize draw.

A free shuttle bus will be available on 12 October between Caerphilly bus station and Caerphilly RFC every hour from 10am until 4pm. Details on transport for Blackwood can be obtained by calling 01495 241274.

Further information about the event is available from Sarah Williams at Caerphilly Local Public Health Team on 01495 241212.
