PLANNING PERMISSION GRANTED FOR FALMOUTH DOCKS MARINA
Work is expected to start immediately on the building of a state-of-the-art 300-berth marina at Falmouth Docks, part of the regeneration of the Docks at Falmouth by A&P.
The new marina will transform the area between Queens and Duchy Wharves. A new floating breakwater will also be built to protect the marina from prevailing winds, providing additional berthing for commercial vessels and super-yachts.
Five new pontoons will make up the marina which will be served by a 300-space car park with buildings housing shower and changing facilities as well as marina offices.
A&P Chief Executive David Ring said: “This is great news for Falmouth and A&P. We are determined to bring the Docks up to date and the marina is part of this strategy. We hope for similar support for the cruise and dredging projects. A&P very much appreciates the help and advice received from the Falmouth Mayor, Falmouth Town Council, Carrick District Council, Cornwall County Council and the RDA”.
Falmouth Town Mayor, Councillor Michael Varney, expressed delight at the decision by Carrick District Council’s Planning Committee to approve the plans.
Mayor Varney said that this was a victory for common sense and was the first significant step in the regeneration of the Dock area.
“Falmouth is famous for its maritime heritage and this latest move will continue this tradition to the long term benefit of the townspeople and the economy,” he said.
“Some of the first vessels likely to be using the new marina facilities will be some of the Tall Ships in September next year, before they race to Funchal, in Madeira. The town couldn’t ask for a better and more dramatic start to the inauguration of these facilities.”
