MOTORISTS ASKED TO OBSERVE TEMPORARY SPEED LIMITS ON JERSEY MARINE
Motorists are being asked to stick to a reduced speed limit at Jersey Marine while essential roadworks take place after speeds of up to 70mph were recorded at the site.
Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership will be enforcing the 40mph limit in both directions to slow motorists down through the roadworks on the A483 Fabian Way into Swansea.
Jim Moore, manager of Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership, said that the enforcement was necessary to protect roadworkers and motorists during the work. “We’re asking all motorists to be patient while the work is carried out. It’s not just about the person behind the wheel but innocent roadworkers put themselves at risk everyday while they go about their work, particularly in this development where they are working right next to a busy main road. A number of roadworkers are killed or seriously injured each year – all these deaths and injuries are avoidable,” he said.
Jason Nutt of Costain, who is supervising the work on the roundabout for the Amazon Distribution Site, added: “Vehicles travelling at excessive speed pose a great danger to our roadworkers. We’re appealing to all motorists to reduce this risk by sticking to the speed restrictions while construction work takes place.”
Mobile cameras will enforce the speed limit until work is complete in January 2008.
Fixed and mobile safety cameras can only be used where people have been killed or seriously injured, at sites of community concern or at roadworks. For further information on Mid & South Wales Safety Camera Partnership, please visit www.checkyourspeed.org.uk
