IDENTICAL TWINS – IDENTICAL RESULTS!

A set of twins from Kowloon, studying in the UK, have proved they are almost impossible to tell apart after scoring identical results in their A level examinations.

Wilson and Jansen Tang who each scored three A Grades in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry were among the six students from Hong Kong who undertook A Level examinations at Christ College Brecon in Wales this year.

Wilson will now go on to study Biochemistry at Oxford University next month while brother Janson is still deliberating his many university options.

Other success stories at the school include Chris Pang, also from Kowloon who matched the twin’s results and was awarded three A’s in Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry. Chris plans to study Psychology at Warwick University.

Jackie Li and Kevin Chan from Kowloon, and Eunice Yau from Hong Kong have also done exceptionally well and are still considering their university plans.

With the recent successes of many students, combined with a continued investment in science facilities, the independent school is fast growing a reputation for producing successful scientists and combating the falling numbers of students going into the field.

“There has been a significant amount of media coverage recently about the falling number of students studying the ‘Hard Sciences’, and how we must do something fast,” said newly appointed Head, Emma Taylor.

“Science is a really exciting area, and Christ College continues to produce outstanding young scientists like these pupils who really enjoy studying it. At Christ College, we focus on the practical side and show students how much fun it can be and what amazing things we can discover – if we focus on putting the excitement back in, I believe more and more people will become interested in science and what it has to offer,” she said.

The school continues to make major investments in further improving its science facilities and boarding accommodation and is fast becoming establishing a large population of international students.

Emma Taylor expressed delight at the results achieved by all the candidates. She said: “It is a fitting reward for the hard work both of the pupils and of the school’s excellent teaching staff, who also deserve great credit”.

“The school continues to invest in Science with both new facilities and quality teachers. It is wonderful to see the potential of these talented students maximised so that they can then pursue and enjoy a career in this field.”

Overall, this year saw an increase in the number of A and B grades awarded to 63%. In particular, the Math and Science department performed particularly strongly with 72 % of all entries in these subject areas graded with an A or B. Impressive also were the English results with 56% of all English candidates gaining A grades. The overall pass rate was 98.2%. 11 candidates (20%) gained the accolade of being awarded three or more A grades.

Families are warmly invited to an Open Morning on Saturday 13th October 2007 between 10am and 12 noon. For more information contact the Admissions Registrar on 01874 615440 or visit the school’s website at www.christcollegebrecon.com
