VOLUNTEERS WANTED TO HELP RUN FRUIT AND VEG CO-OP

Volunteers are needed to help people in Caerphilly get their weekly portions of fruit and vegetables at affordable prices.

The fruit and veg co-op at Llanarth Club in Springfield, Pontllanfraith, relies on local volunteers to run the project and make it a success.

Selling at just £2, more than 200 bags of seasonal fruit and vegetables are sold each month by the Springfield co-op. Volunteers are now needed for up to three hours each week to sort the produce, take orders and collect money for the following week.

Jenny Jones, Public Health Dietician at Caerphilly Local Public Health Team, said: “There are many fruit and veg co-ops run throughout the Borough, all of which need the support of our volunteers to make them happen. Eating the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables every day is essential and can help protect against heart disease, obesity and cancer. The co-ops mean that people can buy fresh fruit and vegetables at affordable prices every week.”
