Southampton show leads to 100 leads

The developers of the new Port Falmouth Marina have returned from a hugely successful week at the UK’s leading boat show with over 100 new berthing enquiries.

Owners of boats ranging from day yachts to superyachts from all over the UK stopped off at the marina’s stand at the Southampton International Boatshow to register their interest – with some enquires even coming from overseas.

Marina manager Drystan Jones said visitors were very positive and excited about the plans for the 290-berth marina, which will create a state-of-the-art gateway to the town and the rest of Cornwall, and is the first stage in a major investment programme in Falmouth Docks by A&P Ports and Properties.

“There’s no doubt that the plans we have for the marina have excited boat owners looking for a very well-located berth from which to explore the South West,” he said.

“The number of enquiries we had in Southampton means that it’s been a very successful show for us. Coupled with the increasing number of approaches we have had in recent months, it has proved to us that there is no let-up in the interest being shown, which is very encouraging.”

The new marina, which has planning permission, will transform the area between Queens and Duchy Wharves. A new floating breakwater will also be built to protect the marina from prevailing winds, providing additional berthing for commercial vessels and super-yachts. Construction will begin following the obtaining of a licence required under the Food and Environmental Protection Act.
