Wind farm developer officially moves in

The company aiming to develop Milford Haven’s first wind farm has officially opened an office at Cleddau Reach as its consultation programme gets under way.

Infinergy Ltd has set up its local headquarters in the Technium building as it moves into the first phase of its plans to develop a four-turbine, 10MW wind farm on the north bank of the estuary.

If its plans are accepted, Wear Point Wind Farm will be built during 2011 on a brownfield site at Wear Point, just west of Hazelbeach, adjacent to the SemLogisitics tank storage facility.

Infinergy is a full subsidiary of KDE, a Dutch renewable energy business which develops, constructs and operates onshore wind projects across Europe, and which has several wind farm projects in Scotland and England. It is also already active in Pembrokeshire through its ownership of NIK Energy Ltd, which is developing a wind farm at Steynton.

The company has already applied to Pembrokeshire County Council for permission to erect a temporary measuring mast on the site to collect detailed information about wind speeds and direction, and will be submitting a full planning application to Pembrokeshire County Council next year.

Infinergy is currently under way with a programme of research to assess the potential impact of the development on the local environment, to be published in an Environmental Statement which will be made available to the public.

“We are really pleased to be able to officially become part of the Milford Haven economy in these fabulous offices at Cleddau Reach,” said Infinergy senior project manager Lorraine Dallmeier.

“We look forward to developing our plans and consulting with people widely in the coming months.”
